ABOUT THE RAINBOW HEALING CENTER
OUR MISSION is to cultivate personal, spiritual and societal development through the cultural and horticultural arts. We seek to motivate, inspire, empower and heal, so that people can make significant long term change in themselves and in the world. We do this by:
- Bringing people together across differences of race, class, religion and culture
- Freeing individuals and organizations from self-defeating labels
- Guiding groups and individuals through programs of personal and inter-cultural growth and development
- Teaching children and adults the skills to grow their own healthy foods and medicines at the Rainbow Garden
- Stimulating minds and opening hearts through the Arts, including poetry, music, photography, drama, dance, and creative writing
- Teaching how to heal within, to care and love one-self through creative self-expression
- Teaching alternative ways to heal the body using nature's herbs available in our own backyards
- Teaching skills and attitudes of motivation and empowerment
- Collaborating with other organizations to heal division and build solidarity in our community
OUR HISTORY
The Rainbow Healing Center of America, Inc. was founded in 2001 by Reverend Olivia Armstrong. Originally located in Monticello, NY, the RHC relocated to Ithaca, NY in 2010. RHC conducted numerous programs and collaborated with many diverse organizations in the Ithaca area including The Groundswell Center for Local Food & Farming, The Ithaca Community Gardens, The Learning Farm, Soul Fire Farm and many others.
In 2019 RHC relocated to Columbia South Carolina. Within a few short months and with the help of many community volunteers, RHC established a Rainbow Healing Garden there, and established a food pantry serving 622 families in an apartment complex in Columbia. But on September 1, 2019 Reverend Armstrong was mauled by a rabid coyote at this same apartment complex, due to the racist negligence of the Columbia police force, who failed to inform her and her neighbors of the presence of the rabid coyote in their complex. During her long recovery all RHC programs were curtailed, and Rev. Armstrong and the Rainbow Healing Center relocated once again to upstate New York.
The Rainbow Healing Center is again conducting programs at its new permanent home in rural Nichols, NY. The Rainbow Garden is growing, and plans are in the works for construction of program facilities on site. Donations are much appreciated and will help us build the infrastructure needed to conduct our ambitious agenda of educational and inspirational programs. Thank you for your support!
